Bishop Thomas J. Bickerton joined local officials from Mercer County and Habitat for Humanity representatives on March 15 to break ground for the Habitat house that will be built in Mercer during the 2008 Annual Conference Blitz-Build in June. Preliminary work will be done at the site (foundation dug, block walls erected, beam and joists installed and the deck laid) during May. Blitz-Build will begin on Saturday, June 7, and conclude with dedication of the home after the Ordination Service on Sunday, June 15.
More than 300 people from the Western PA Conference have volunteered to spend one or more days working on the project. The turnout was more than anticipated so additional projects are being planned by the conference coordinator in order that all the volunteers might be able to participate in a mission project during the week. St. Paul’s VIM has chosen Tuesday, June 10, as the day they will furnish a team of volunteers. Approximately 30 members and friends of St. Paul's UMC have volunteered for this project.
