Sunday Morning
Worshipping with Children
Families are encouraged to worship together each week. However, young ones sometimes have a difficult time sitting during church service. Hopefully, by the time a child reaches first grade he/she can worship with the family in the sanctuary. With that in mind, there are several options to ease the transition into sanctuary worship.
- The Chapel area directly behind the Sanctuary is available to calm babies or restless children.
- A professionally staffed nursery is available for children under the age of three. The nursery is located in the lower level of the Christian Life Center in Room Yellow #5.
- The Children’s Message creates a special time designed for children during worship.
- Children’s Church is available for children 3 years old through Kindergarten.
- Children’s quiet activity bags are available to children during church. Ask an Usher to help you locate the bags above the coat racks.
Children’s Church
During the 8:30 a.m. and the 11:00 a.m. worship, Children’s Church offers a child friendly worship themed atmosphere for children 3-years-old through Kindergarten. Kris Sullivan leads Children’s Church weekly with the help of other adult and youth volunteers. Children are dismissed to Children’s Church from the sanctuary. Shortly after worship begings there is a Children’s Message. This is a time when the children are invited forward for a short time of discussion and prayer arranged and designed just for them at their age level. Following the Children’s Message children are dismissed to attend Children’s Church or to stay with thier families in the sanctuary. Children’s Church is located in the lower level of the Christian Life Center. Follow the steps across from George Crooks Dining Hall Downstairs to Yellow Room #1. Immediately after Worship is finished families should pick-up children from Children’s Church
Christian Education
Sunday mornings offer a classroom Christian Education experience for children. Beginning at age two, children are invited to attend class time with their peers. Adult volunteers lead the class time and follow Cokesbury’s Solid Rock Curriculum. Teaching includes story and scripture to strength each weekly lesson. Prayer, craft, games and snack are also often part of the morning lessons.
Children age two through third grade meet downstairs in the lower level of the Christian Life Center (CLC). Fourth and Fifth graders meet in a combined classroom in the upper level of the CLC, next to the gym. Christian Education begins at 9:45 a.m. Second graders through fifth graders should go directly to their classrooms and check-in with the volunteer teachers. Two-year-olds and three-year-olds should also check in with the volunteer teachers at 9:45 a.m.
Four-year-olds through first graders should all meet in Red 1, the room directly to the left upon entering the lowet level of the CLC. During the first 15 minutes of Sunday morning Christian Education, this group will be instucted and taught Children’s Christian songs along with hand motions to reinforce the lessons being taught in class. All children participating in music time should be signed in on the sheets directly outside of the class doorway. At 10:00 a.m. all children are dismissed to their classrooms according to the sign-in sheets.
Christian Education classes end at 10:45 a.m. All children should be picked up by an adult via the volunteer leader at the end of class.
Sunday Morning Nursery
Nursery care is available Sunday morning from 8:15 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. Families can use the nursery while participating in Worship and Christian Education. The nursery is professionally staffed to care for infants and toddlers through 3 years of age. Upon dropping off your child in the nursery, there is a registration sheet to complete. The staff will request any necessary information regarding your child’s special needs, allergies, etc. and establish pick-up procedure. Also, note the sick child policy that is posted in the nursery.
