A Special Thank You

Funding for arts programs at St. Paul’s Preschool was generously provided by the Donald C. and Twila Peters Fund of The Pittsburgh Foundation.

In 2006, The Foundation and its Supporting Organizations awarded more than $36.8 million in grants to a vast array of nonprofit organizations, students through scholarships, and medical researchers, based on donor interests and specific purposes of individual funds.

Since 1945, The Pittsburgh Foundation has been connecting its generous donors with the critical needs of our community.  Donors who have established funds through the Foundation can support virtually any area of charitable interest in Pittsburgh, or anywhere in the United States.  Because the Foundation is a public charity, donors benefit from significant tax advantages.

Endowment funds held by the Foundation range from $10,000 to $40 million, created by individuals and organizations with a passion for Pittsburgh and a deep commitment to their community.  More than 1,000 individuals, families and organizations have established funds at The Pittsburgh Foundation, which exists in perpetuity – growing each year – to provide an ever-increasing resource to benefit the community.

Disability Awareness

St. Paul’s Preschool is an inclusive school and works closely with many agencies who serve our special needs children.  The agencies differ each year, but co-operation and open communication between the preschool and each agency contribute to the success of the children.

Easter Seals brings one or two of their children each year to our preschool through an integration program.  The Easter Seals child attends class with an Easter Seals facilitator and is able to gain social skills and to take part in all classroom activities.

St. Paul’s also participates in a reverse integration program.  Two classes travel to the Easter Seals site and interact with the children in art, large motor and free play activities.  All of the children learn that children might be different but yet are still alike in many ways.

Easter Seals also presents a Disability Awareness Program for all of the 4 and 5-year-old classes.  Many types of specialized equipment are brought and explained to the children.  Each child is then given the opportunity to use the equipment.

If you have a child with special needs and would like to discuss our integration program, please call us at 412-486-5591.
