What do you think?
For me, you may only have peace where there is love.
Peace is the promise of God. We all need to work side by side to bring about peace in our part of the world. We need to be at peace with everyone we encounter. We need to set aside differences. We need to regard everyone with respect. No matter our differences, we are children of God. When each of us is at peace with others, then peace can spread across the world.
Peace can be an individual thing–inner peace, a quiet moment in solitude, arriving at “financial peace,” or just being at peace with your setting in life, at least for today. Peace can obviously be a corporate thing–world peace, peace among disagreeing factions, or “legal peace” when a treaty is agreed upon or when a boundary dispute is settled by a court. However, when the Bible talks about peace, it typically means arriving at an affirming relationship with God and neighbor, and justice is a necessary part of biblical peace. Can there be peace between the Palestinians and the Israelis without justice? No. Can there be peace between any two neighbors who disagree without addressing the disagreement? No. Can we have an affirmation relationship with God without some remedy for human sinfulness and lawbreaking? No. When we say “Can’t we just have peace?” without being willing to work for the resolution of whatever is keeping us from having peace in the first place is not a statement of integrity. The Good News is that God has sent the Prince of Peace into the world to work in partnership with us to bring about peace with justice. Today’s news is that we have to do our part.
I believe that in the end, we are all spiritual beings having a human experience.
Believe it or not, I have found inner peace even in the depths of agony. I like to think this is God’s way of reassuring me that He will never leave me alone-ever! What a wonderful gift to receive and remember as I continue on my earthly road.
