Tami D. Weisner, Director of Youth Ministries
Our youth ministry is built on Scripture, Hebrews 6:19:
“It’s an unbreakable spiritual lifeline reaching past all appearances right to the very presence of God.”
Every student is encouraged to come to know the love of God, by experiencing the love of God so that you can be the love of God.
Overview of Ministries:
Grades 6-8: ANCHOR, MIDHI Crew, Coffee Hour, Laurelville, BASECAMP, SURF CITY / MIDHI Mission & Youth Choir
Grades 9-12: ANCHOR, SRHI Crew, Coffee Hour, Fall Retreat, WORKCAMP & Youth Choir
Beginning in the fall of 2011, CONFIRMATION class will meet on Wednesdays and is offered to students in 8th Grade or higher that have not yet completed the Confirmation curriculum. This class offers tools and creates opportunity for students to respond personally and publicly to God’s call. Students are asked to consciously embrace the Christian faith as their own and to accept responsibilities of Christian discipleship.
ANCHOR happens on Sunday mornings and all students’ grades 6-12 are welcome. It is a time to dig into the Bible and learn Scripture as it applies to everyday life. Students meet from 9:45-10:45 a.m. in the Youth Room. SRHI Crew (grades 9-12) meets Sunday evenings from 7-9 p.m., September – May, exploring a variety of student-chosen topics that intertwine Christian faith with the life of the average teen. We also hang out together for Open Rec in the Fellowship Hall. Wednesday nights are focused on MIDHI Crew (grades 6-8). Open Rec / group games followed by short discussion begin at 6:00 p.m. At 7:00 p.m. small groups dig deeper into discussion while Confirmation students meet together for their weekly classes.
The Youth Choir is designed for students to worship God through sharing their musical talent. The Choir rehearses on Sunday evenings at 6 p.m. (September – April) and sings twice a month in worship services. Youth Choir is open to all students in Grades 6-12. The local spring musicals are a great place to spot our youth on stage as well as the production teams.
Summers are full of opportunities to share our faith with others. SRHI WORKCAMP (grades 9-12) is the best hands-on experience impacting the hearts of our students and changes lives. Students finishing 8th grade are also welcome to join our Workcamp team, this is an awesome opportunity for you to pave your way into SRHI CREW. We will invest our time, accept the challenge of hard work, and have fun while doing home repair mission for low or fixed income families, handicapped, and the elderly. Our goal is to touch lives through hammers, paint, and hard work.
During Vacation Bible School week, July 18-22, MIDHI students have the opportunity to participate in BASECAMP, an outdoor adventure experience that challenges them physically and spiritually. Also for MIDHI students in July, we travel with the Pittsburgh Kids Network to Grace Adventures Camp located on the beautiful shores of Lake Michigan to enjoy Surf City. This week away from home is a chance for MIDHI students to discover their own relationship with Christ as they ride the waves, play in the sand, sing songs of worship, and share in cabin time. Surf City alternates years with MIDHI Mission to the Pittsburgh Project, where our MIDHI students touch the lives of people right here in our own hometown.
Weekend RETREATS happen several times through the year. They are always some of the most favored experiences. Retreats give us an open space away from home to focus our hearts on God as we fellowship with some of the greatest people we know.
St. Paul’s students are very busy with an array of school activities and sports. Tuesday afternoons have become a favorite time of the week to gather at Border’s Café for COFFEE HOUR and to catch up with each other. Our students are deeply committed to active lives and support each other through prayer, presence, and service.
Stay connected throughout the summer by attending BREAKFAST CLUB on Thursday mornings at 9:30. We start off our day together at different local breakfast hot spots. All youth, friends and families are welcome to join us for breakfast. Click on the link to find out where we will be this week.
Our Youth Advisory Team does its best to support our students in many of their activities as well as in prayer. Contact Tami Weisner for additional information (412-486-7006), she wants to know you and for you to know Christ.
