Volunteers in Mission
The purpose of St. Paul’s UMC Volunteers In Mission is to provide an opportunity for adults to share their God given gifts and skills to help people in need. It is our vision to encourage individuals to participate in mission work, either as part of a group or as individuals. Our intent is to complete several local mission projects and one national project each year. You do not need previous mission experience or any particular skills; you only need a desire to serve the Lord through your works.
Since the fall of 2006 members and friends of St. Paul’s UMC have volunteered with our VIM team and have completed:
- 64 local projects – 491 Volunteers – 110 days
- 1 conference project (Blitz-Build, Mercer, PA)
- 16 national work camps – (Gulfport, MS; Cedar Rapids, IA; Red Bird Mission, KY; Nashville, TN, Plains, PA, Crisfield, MD; Somers Point, NJ), Oak Hill, WV, Eastover, SC, White Sulfur Springs, WV, Pittsburgh, and Swansboro, NC 331 Volunteers – 74 days worked
- Over 10,000 volunteer hours
- Over 100 different people have volunteered their time and talents
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic many public school students had to study from home, using computers and laptops, connecting to their classrooms using Zoom. May intercity students did not have desks at home to facilitate their studying. Beginning in November 2020 members of our team built and distributed 200 desks to students and families in need of desks.
